Stanley A. Goodhue

The Villages

Stanley A. Goodhue, 96, a former resident of Shaftsbury, Vermont, and more recently of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, surrounded by family.

Stanley was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on November 10, 1929, the son of the late Edward W. and Valarie (LaPlante) Goodhue. He was a graduate of Lebanon High School, Class of 1947.

Stanley proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Military Policeman. His service was an important part of his life and reflected the strong sense of duty and responsibility that he carried throughout his life.

On June 25, 1949, Stanley married the former Karlene Dow in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Together they raised their family and shared more than four decades of marriage until her passing on August 16, 1994.

After Karlene’s passing, Stanley found love again and married Marion T. Kenyon in May of 1996 in East Dorset, Vermont. They shared more than twenty years together until Marion’s passing in 2017.

Stanley was a hardworking man who spent his life providing for his family. He worked as a meat cutter and later owned and operated Goodhue’s Cleaning Service from 1970 to 1977. In 1977, he opened Goodhue’s Corner Store at Benmont and Holden Street, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1994.

Those who knew Stanley would describe him as hardworking, determined, stubborn, generous, and faithful. He was the kind of person who helped others not necessarily by offering words, but by rolling up his sleeves and getting to work. If someone needed something built, repaired, moved, or figured out, Stanley was usually willing to lend a hand.

Stanley loved working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking and built countless crafts as well as furniture. He took pride in making things that were useful, beautiful, and built to last. He also enjoyed gardening, playing golf as well as playing cards with family and friends.

Golf provided Stanley with many memorable moments with his family. His sons were always trying to beat him—or at least outdrive him. Even in his later years, that was rarely an easy task. Stanley got his first hole in one shortly after moving to The Villages.

Stanley leaves behind a large and loving family, including his four sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Heather Goodhue of Bennington, VT; Kevin and Michele Goodhue of Manahawkin, NJ; Timothy and Michele Goodhue of Wesley Chapel, FL; and Gregg and Tanya Goodhue of Middletown, CT; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his stepdaughters, Wanda Robbins and Robin Becker; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Valarie LaPlante Goodhue; his first wife, Karlene Goodhue; his second wife, Marion T. Goodhue; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Donald Chandler; and his siblings, Raleigh, Robert, Raymond, Philip, Joseph, Rolfe, and Paul Goodhue, Urilla Goodhue, Gertrude Goodhue, and Gladys French.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
