Bennington

Paula Pappas, aged 79, died peacefully on August 20, 2026, at Mission Care Nursing Home in Bennington, VT.

She was born on February 15, 1947, in New York City, the daughter of Angie and Evangelos Pappas, where she resided until the passing of her parents. She afterwards joined her family in Bennington in February of 2017. Paula always had high academic achievements in high school and went on to further her education at Barnard College.

Paula was both academic and an amazingly down-to-earth, humble person. She was relatable and liked by all who got to know her. Paula enjoyed her close bond with her family throughout her life, was a determined woman, had a great sense of humor and many talents. This was inspirational to those who knew her best.

Paula loved, understood and appreciated the arts. She enjoyed listening to a variety of music, playing the piano, was a sketch artist, loved painting, was an avid reader and read and wrote poetry. In addition to speaking English and Greek, Paula also learned how to speak and read French fluently simply from taking her high school language classes.

Paula is survived by her brother, Elias (Linda) Pappas, her nieces and nephews, Ellice (Joel) Switzer; Koren (Peter) McCostis; Evan Pappas and their children; Jack Eleni, Amara and Nina.

A memorial and burial service will be held at the family burial plot in Westchester, NY at a later, to be determined, date.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Paula may be made to the Bennington Free Library, the John G. McCullough Free Library (North Bennington) or the Bennington Museum through the office of EP Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main Street Bennington, Vermont 05201.
