Pamela J. Vachon-Duprea, 79, of Bennington, VT, passed away Thursday May 21, 2026, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Pamela was born in Bennington on November 30, 1946, the daughter of Richard Henry Vachon, Sr., and Mary Ruth (Holden) Vachon. She married Raymond Arthur Duprea on June 10, 1988. Raymond died on October 11, 2011.
Pamela earned an associate’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph’s College. She worked for many years as an office manager in a medical office and ended her working career as an office manager for an accounting firm. Once she retired, she worked part-time at the Bennington K-Mart, which she absolutely loved, and made yet even more close friends.
One of her proudest accomplishments was that of becoming a Deputy Sheriff, where she served (alongside her husband, and parents) in Bennington for many years. Pam took much pride in her role leading the Bennington County Sheriff’s Explorers group also, for many years. She always had such fond memories of the children she mentored and had many stories to tell of summer Explorer camping trips to Lake Shaftsbury.
“Pammie” (as she was affectionately known) was surely one-of-a-kind. She had a very distinctive and intoxicating laugh that once you heard, was embedded in your memory forever. She had a small group of close friends that through the years also became family (she loved you all very much). If the garage door was open, the coffee was on, and she was ready for a visit, anyone was welcome. She absolutely adored her dog, Stormy, whom she loved and spoiled for all 15 years of his life.
Pamela is survived by a brother, Tommy (Kathy) Vachon of Mims, FL, three nieces; Rebecca Stuter (James Bolde) of Ravenna, NY, Jaime (RJ) Joly of Pownal, VT and Alicia (Shane) Napoli of Valley Falls, NY., a great niece and nephew, Raegan Joly and Garrett Joly, and many amazing cousins. In addition to her husband Raymond, and her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard “Dickie” Vachon as well as his wife Paula (Grover) Vachon.
Pammie was the world to so many people, always that bright shining star that shined brighter than all others. The garage door is now forever closed, but her memory will live on endlessly within those that knew her, and her laugh will eternally echo in our hearts and minds.
Graveside services for Pamela will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Park lawn Cemetery in Bennington, VT. If friends desire, contributions in Pamela’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association through the office of EP Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main Street Bennington, VT 05201.
