Mary A. Stemp, 84, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away on April 16, 2026. Born in Bennington on April 13, 1942, to the late Robert K. and Abby (Amadon) Farnum. She received her education in Bennington schools. On December 20, 1958, Mary married Steven F. Stemp at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.

Mary is survived by her husband, Steven, and their daughter, Wanda (Terry) Hill of Bennington; her sons, Michael Stemp of Bennington and Shawn (Angie) Stemp of Searsport, Maine. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kelly, Nikie, Todd (Sarene), Nicole (Steve), Sierra (Dennis), Abby, Arianna, Jessica (Justin), and Johanna (Jason). Her great-grandchildren include Gavin, Karleigh, Taylor, Jaelyn, Kamryn, Elijah, Andrew, Kaydence, and Bella. She is further survived by her great-great-grandchild, Callen. Mary was also survived by her sisters, Shirley Barnhardt and Judy (Mike) Morettis and her brothers Ray Farnum, Don Farnum, Tom Farnum and Denny (Jeannette) Stemp.

Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Fred Farnum and Donald Farnum. She was also predeceased by Ginny, Robert, Roger, and Fred, as well as her parents, Abby and Robert Farnum. In addition, Mary was predeceased by Tommy Stemp, Brian Stemp, Kenny Stemp, Florence Stemp, and Francis Stemp.

Mrs. Stemp was employed at Union Carbide and later Eveready for 33 years until her retirement.

If you knew Mary, you knew her favorite saying was, “Oh well.”

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the E.P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, VT. Following the calling hours, a Funeral Mass for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart/St. Francis de Sales Church. A graveside service will then follow at White Chapel Cemetery.
