Jennie May Gallant, a long-time resident of Pownal, VT passed away at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on May 17, 2026 after a long illness. Jennie was born December 29, 1931 in Bennington to Frank and Marie (McIntosh) Watrous. She married John Prospere Gallant on November 9, 1957.
As many women of her generation did, Jennie spent many years as a homemaker before entering the workforce. She was employed at W.T. Grant and F.W. Woolworth Department Stores, but later went on to work at Tansitor Electronics, from which she retired. Jennie had been cared for at MissionCare for several years before her death. In her younger years she enjoyed walking, reading, and music. She also had a talent for growing plants and flowers- with a wide variety of African Violets always on display.
Jennie was predeceased by her husband, John; her son Christopher Gallant, her sister and brother-in-law June and Donald Perrott, niece Mary Jane Perrott, as well as her in-laws Raymond, Gerald and Ruth Gallant, and Shirley Rowe. She is survived by her children Sandy (Don) Latif of Shaftsbury, Jeffrey (Joanne) Gallant of Terre Haute, IN, Cathy (Rick) Harrington, Debra Brock and Tina (Nancy Brown) Gallant of Pownal, daughter-in-law Pat Gallant; her grandchildren Bridget Gallant, Ashley Walker, Chris Gallant, Ryan Latif, Courtney Brittain, Jordan Gallant, Jayla Gallant, Meagan Snide, Richard Harrington, Calla Harrington, Lucas Harrington and Jasmine Brock, 15 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Richard Gallant of Shaftsbury, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to call at the E.P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, Vermont, on Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A memorial service and burial at St. John’s Cemetery in North Bennington will immediately follow the calling hours.
