Bennington

Elizabeth Ann (Powers) Winters, a life-long resident of Hoosick Falls, NY united with the Lord on May 3, 2026 at the age of 81 at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation. She was profoundly blessed by the loving devotion of her daughter, Michelle, who was her anchor in navigating her healthcare.

Elizabeth is the daughter of the late John and Lucy (Major) Powers ll and granddaughter of the late John Powers Sr. and Hannah (Hewson) Powers. She was affectionately known as Betty to most. She grew up on Ball Street Extension and spent a lot of time with her cousins on the Powers Farm. When reminiscing about her childhood, she would share her fond memories of playing with her cousin Kathy or visiting with her Uncle Rich in the barn, while he milked the cows. She also would walk down to Calhoun’s Farm to stop by to see her dad while he was tending to the Guernsey’s. there. Along with her four siblings and cousins she attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls.

Betty’s family meant most to her. As an adult, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren as well as her brothers, sister n’ laws and her nieces and nephews. Often they would have family gatherings at her brother Jim’s and his wife Bonnie's home especially, on holidays when the house would be full of love, laughter and the fun kind of craziness. The dessert was always plentiful. She loved picnics at the lake and going swimming. No matter where the gathering was, Betty was always called upon to make her famous potato salad as a dish to share. She loved going to tag sales, restaurants and camping with Jim and Bonnie. Betty was a great homemaker, cook and baker.

Betty devoted her life as a caregiver for children. She combined nurturing her six children with a professional career in childcare. She was employed throughout her life at Dandelion Daycare
Center, Kids Are Dande and Kiddie Carr. Upon retiring, Betty would frequent the Hoosick Falls Senior Center. She enjoyed playing card games, BINGO, and going on bus trips. Having a great love for music, her favorite pastime was always the music performances. She is remembered by her friends as a kind soul, a friend to all, who always had the most beautiful smile and blouses.

Her greatest joy after retiring, was looking after her grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored and had a strong bond with. She was always involved with them whether it was making their favorite food or swimming at the town pool, going sleigh riding at the park, exploring on hikes, shooting hoops or lacing up her ice skates to skate along with the grandkids. Wearing her Panther jacket and toting her flowered chair, she could be found cheering on her grandson,Tyler, at his many sporting events. She will be missed dearly by all of her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughter Michelle (Rick) and grandson Tyler, his wife Alyssa and great-grandson Tallon, step grandson Cody (Rachel) and their son Levi, and step grandson Chris, daughter Patti (David), son Mark (Jackie), and their children Danielle and Mark and two great-grandchildren, daughter Brenda, daughter Tammy and her children Kyle, Hannah and Franklin, and several nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by her sweet friends Valerie, Marion and Harry.

She was predeceased by her son David, son and law Tom C., brother and sister n’ laws; Walt (Lenore), John (Brenda), James (Bonnie), Paul, and her dear friend Cheryl.

While residing at the nursing home Betty loved playing Uno with her daughter Michelle, friends and other residents. Her cherished moments were listening and singing along to music with “her girl” Michelle in the solarium. Music brought Betty great joy! She sang beautifully. In her final days she took comfort in peacefully singing along with her daughter, while they listened to Catholic hymns as the Lord was preparing a special place in heaven for her.

Betty will be missed dearly, however, let her kind soul, gentle spirit and laughter, live on in us all who were blessed to know her, as we take comfort in knowing she is with our savior in Heaven.

“And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand”

A burial service memorial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Betty’s honor to either the Hoosick Falls Senior Center or the Ed Carknard
