Caroline Paligo

September 18, 1926 — February 28, 2026

Caroline Paligo, 99, a resident of Middle Pownal Road in Bennington passed away on February 28, 2026.

She was born in Bennington, VT September 18, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Ruby (Tobie) Carey. Caroline received her education in Bennington where she attended Saint Francis de Sales Academy.

She married Walter J. Paligo on December 18, 1948 in Keene, New Hampshire. Mr. Paligo died June 14, 1993.

In earlier years Caroline was employed as a school bus driver. She later worked as a nurses aid at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington and also did private duty nursing. She was one of the original members of the Bennington Rescue Squad and was a member of the Bennington Lodge of Moose, the VFW Post 1332, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion Post 1332 and Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church.

Caroline enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking, crocheting and walking. Her family was her main interest along with her dogs, Sheeba and Baxter.

Survivors include four daughters, Gloria Pratt of North Bennington, Anna O'Neill of North Adams, MA, Kathy Button Mosher of Bennington, and Suzanne Davis of Shaftsbury. As well as an adopted daughter Angie Serrano of New York Twenty three grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a son Chester Paligo and four sisters, Lucy, Evelyn, Jean and Elizabeth and three brothers, Frederick, Robert and Francis. She was also pre-deceased by Gordon R. Paligo and Frederick M. Paligo.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. The funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 12:00 p.m.

The burial will take place at a later date in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery
